Caprari S.p.A. is a highly respected Italian company with a very long history, working with water treatment and pumps since 1945. Founded by Amadio Caprari, the company has grown from a small repair workshop into one of the world’s leading pump manufacturers and providers of complete solutions in the water sector.

History and development

1945 to 1965: Foundation and early years

1945: Amadio Caprari founded the company in the municipality of Rolo, in the province of Reggio Emilia, Italy, initially focusing on pumps for irrigation needs.
1949: The first products included dry-installed pumps and vertical shaft pumps.
1965: The company opened a new 40,000 m² production facility and moved its headquarters to the industrial center of Modena, Italy.

1965 to 1985: Innovation and internationalization

1968: The first borehole pump series was introduced, which remains one of Caprari’s key product groups.
1970 to 1985: International expansion began in France, followed by subsidiaries in Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal, Australia, Greece, Tunisia and China. Today, Caprari is represented in more than 96 countries.
1985: The first flexible manufacturing system, FMS, was introduced, strengthening Caprari’s production efficiency.

1985 to 2005: Product development and customer focus

1986: A factory dedicated to the production of submersible motors was established near Modena.
1988: Wastewater pumps were added to the product family.

In addition to product development, Caprari developed unique services:

• Italy’s first pump selection software
• A training center for customer personnel

2005 to 2020: Technological pioneer

2008: The iPump online portal for water industry professionals was launched.
2014: The energy-efficient K+ Energy pump series was released.
2015: A joint venture was established in Turkey.
2018: A K+ series pump equipped with the DryWet System™ cooling system received the best innovation award at the EIMA exhibition.

This period and its product development were marked by several international patents and new series such as:

ENDURANCE: Made from microcast steel for heavy-duty conditions, such as mining and offshore applications.
ENERGY: Focused on energy savings.

2021 to present: Towards a sustainable future

2021: The Wateralia holding company was established together with the investor Ambienta. Wateralia is a pioneer in environmentally focused sector-specific investments.
