It is important to understand that choosing the right type of valve can be decisive for the efficiency, safety and reliability of processes. In industry, valves are critical components that control the flow of liquids, gases and other substances in complex systems. Companies working with pressure applications in particular need to pay close attention to valve selection.

Valve selection starts with understanding the requirements and specific characteristics of the application. It is important to know what types of substances will pass through the valve, what the flow rate, operating pressure and temperature are, and whether the substance is corrosive or otherwise aggressive. For example, handling acids or alkalis requires different materials than transporting steam or oil.

It is also worth considering how often the valve will need to be used. Is high precision required for flow control, or is a simple open/closed position enough? Are manually operated or automated valves needed? The level of automation depends on the complexity of the process and how frequently the valve is used.

The valve material must be able to withstand the process conditions. Valves made from stainless steel, bronze, plastic or acid-resistant special metals are common, depending on the substance and its properties.
