Self-priming pumps are used in applications where liquid needs to be lifted from below the pump using the pump’s suction capability. The advantage of self-priming pumps is that they do not require auxiliary equipment to achieve self-priming. The pump itself often includes a built-in suction chamber, although other types of self-priming pumps also exist, such as liquid ring pumps and flexible impeller pumps.
